Click for details. The "10-rouble" tour

The most memorable souvenir from Krasnoyarsk is the Russian 10-rouble banknote because the sights of Krasnoyarsk are printed on it. Keep a 10-rouble note and you will be able to show pictures of these places in Krasnoyarsk. This is one of the best mementos from Siberia. That is why I suggest you to take the "10-rouble tour".

On the front side of the 10-rouble bank note you will see the Saint Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Orthodox Chapel, which is a symbol of Krasnoyarsk. The second place on this side is the Communal Bridge over the Yenisey River and the view of the Right Bank of the city. On the back of the note... Details...

Click for details. Trip to the Dam

If you are in Krasnoyarsk you would definitely have to not miss the Krasnoyarsk Hydro Electric Power Station (Dam). This dam is located 40 km upstream of the city.

The road there is a part of the highway to Mongolia and goes through beautiful countryside. It turns, goes up and down in gorgeous mountains covered by pines and birch trees. It reminds many people of places such as parts of Italy, western Ontario in Canada and states like Utah, West Virginia, etc in the U.S. Also, it comes through dacha’s areas (summer cottages) of city’s residents. Right after a checkpoint of the traffic police, which signs a border of Krasnoyarsk, we will pass the local Zoo. This Zoo has many... Details...

Three kilometers upriver from Krasnoyarsk on the east bank of the Yenisey River you will find the famous national reserve, Stolby. Its total area is 47,000 hectares, 1,500 of which are used for tourism and excursions. Millions of years of rains and winds created quaint gigantic figures from wild rocks. You will pass by rocks of whimsical forms with names such as Lion Gates, The Old Man, The Miter, Feathers and Takmak. Altogether there are 100 of them; some rocks reach 100 meters in height.

The Stolby reserve is famous for its splendid scenery. You will travel on a mountainous road through the boundless taiga forest, enjoy fresh, clean air and try crystal cold water from the springs. The route runs along the valley of a mountainous creek, the Laletina. The scenery is... Details...

Our trip to Takmak Rock was one of the best experiences in our time in Krasnoyarsk. We had seen Takmak Rock in the distance from the Communal Bridge but to get up close is something else! Details...

Click for details.Tunguska meteorite

On June 30th, 1908, something exploded 8 kilometers high over the river Stony Tunguska, destroying about 2,150 square kilometers of Siberian taigà (forest). Even today, it is not clear whether it was a comet, an asteroid, or something else. This phenomenon is named the “Tunguska meteorite”.

Huge powerful earthquakes after the impact of the unknown space body really shocked the Earth. The seismic wave surrounded the planet twice and it was 2,000 times more powerful than the atomic explosion over Hiroshima. According to calculations of scientists, the equivalent TNT explosion would require more than 50 million tons.

For almost 90 years, the catastrophe was shrouded in mystery. The distance involved... Details...

Being a local tour guide, I have ideas of what visitors of our city like to get. If you are interested in impressing your friends, relatives, collegues or bosses, then please take a shopping tour around the city.

Krasnoyarsk’s shopping industry is growing and has been changing with the city. There are more and more stores accepting plastic cards such as Visa, MasterCard, EuroCard etc, most do not accept American Express. The majority of shops accept only rouble cash, but in a few places you can manage to pay in U.S. dollars. You can get food in numerous Western-style supermarkets. But if we are talking about...
